Dr. Chang In Shin

Dr. Shin is the founder and CEO of GDM Consulting. Dr. Shin is an expert in negotiation and communication, particularly in international negotiation and intercultural/cross-cultural communications. Her research interests include international negotiation (M&A, joint venture, trade, and arms control), conflict resolution, cultural diversity management, intercultural business communication, and political communication.

Dr. Shin was a Research Fellow at the Program on Negotiation (PON) at Harvard Law School, a Visiting Scholar of East Asian Legal Studies at Harvard Law School, an Associate in Research at the Korea Institute at Harvard University, and an Associate at the Harvard Project on Cold War Studies of the Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Harvard University.

Dr. Shin has an extensive research background and experience in US-Korea trade negotiations, US-China joint venture negotiations, US-North Korea nuclear negotiations, Russia-North Korea relations, U.S. trade law & WTO, conflict resolution and prevention, Korean culture and discourse analysis, inter-racial communication and identity negotiation, (de)construction of Whiteness, and intercultural negotiation.

Dr. Shin has taught at Boston University School of Management, University of Hartford, Pennsylvania State University, SUNY Brockport, and SUNY Korea. Dr. Shin taught classes in international management, business, leadership, intercultural/cross-cultural communications, international/global communications, communication theories, Improving Communication Skills, Effective Speech, and Public Speaking.

Upon returning to Korea, Dr. Shin served as Chief of External Affairs at the Korea Institute of Public Finance (KIPF) in Seoul, Korea, in charge of international affairs and the management of global events and logistics. Dr. Shin also served as Director for Public Expenditure Management Network in Asia (PEMNA), in charge of the formation of global networks among government officials of Asia to expand regional dialogue and foster fiscal sustainability among member countries of Asia, with working closely with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

Dr. Shin received her doctoral degree in Communication Arts and Sciences from the Pennsylvania State University, a master's degree in Communication Studies from the State University of New York Brockport, and a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Shin also majored in journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Shin also served as a reporter, editor, and copywriter for various multinational media companies in New York. Dr. Shin was the recipient of a PON Graduate Research Fellowship from the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School in 2000 and the Honor of Excellence from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance of South Korea in 2013.

Currently, Dr. Shin serves as Managing Consultant for International Business Landing Service, a Finland-based business management consulting firm, specializing in business development, market penetration, business expansion, consultancy and more.
